CUTTING CORNERS
Recently we have experienced a surge in the number of people reporting problems with injection pumps they have purchased not from us but from out many competitors.
The reason they have contacted us is because they have received no help in resolving issues from the companies from where they purchased the pumps. On a number of occasions the pumps have been sent to us to be put right.
Currently there is an awful lot of 'price slashing' especially related to Bosch VP30 and Bosch VP44 injection pumps (as found on 1.7 Astras, 1.8 Focus, 2.0/2.4 Transit, Vectra/Astra/Frontera/Omega 2.0/2.2 and Audi V6 2.5 TDI).
Obviously in these testing times it would be ideal to purchase a pump at a rock bottom price but lets be aware of how a pump can realistically be built at a low price. The price of a pump is determined by the number of parts put into it, the quality of those parts, the time spent examining the pump/rebuilding it/testing it and the pay rate of the staff carrying out the work.
Importing pumps from outside the UK to reduce labour rates is a trick employed by some companies other methods are to re-use parts and only renew the faulty parts to make the pump operational.
Both these methods can lead to major headaches for the end user, if a part fails the vehicle breaks down, it must be recovered, the pump needs removing to be rectified then sent back for refitting. All this takes time and costs money, ap pump warranty only covers correcting a fault with the pump and possibly removing and refitting, it NEVER covers the messing about and time lost.
The mentality of re-using old parts and the 'so what if a few come back' attitude is in our eyes a very short sighted and unprofessional line to take. Unfortunately though this appears to be the way some companies run to be the 'cheapest'.
We could drop our pump prices by between £30.00 and £80.00 but we will be straight, to that we would be using old parts, rushing pumps through and potentially missing faults.
At Diesel Bob Tuning we do the job right first time, ALL electronic parts are renewed, ONLY original parts are fitted (or heavy duty if requested) and we never cut corners.
It is true that injection pumps can give issues, even a brand new pump with every part new can develop a fault. However, to massively reduce the possibility of a fault is to carry out a PROPER rebuild in the first place.
We do a proper job or we won't do the job!!
Below is a pump sent to us from a client, the pump purchased from elsewhere ceased to function after 3 weeks after no success resolving the problem with the company from where it was purchased and bill of over £1000.00 in recovery charges, diagnostic charges and removal charges the pump arrived with us.
In the end it was discovered that the pump housing was worn out. If the pump had been properly examined during strip down it would of been noted and a new pump housing should of been used.
A prime examle of the 'so what if a few come back' attitude if you needed to see one!
